TV and home theater wiring in Austin, TX

We power and wire mounted TVs and full home theaters so no cords show. That means a recessed outlet behind the screen, in-wall rated cable, and flat-rate pricing you approve before we open a wall.

What it is

TV and home theater wiring puts clean power and low-voltage cabling exactly where your mounted TV, projector and AV gear live. The core piece is a recessed outlet box behind the screen that combines a flush power receptacle with a low-voltage pass-through, so the plug and the HDMI run disappear into the wall instead of hanging below the TV. For theaters and media rooms we also add dedicated circuits for the receiver and amplifiers, power at the projector location, and clean feeds to the equipment rack. We route everything in CL2 or CL3 in-wall rated cable, which is jacketed to be run inside a wall legally and safely, then verify every signal and outlet before we leave.

This is the right call if:

  • You want a mounted TV with zero visible cords, power cable or HDMI.
  • You are hanging a TV over a stone or brick fireplace and need power and signal brought up inside the wall.
  • You are building a media room or theater and want dedicated circuits so the gear is not sharing a breaker with the rest of the room.
  • You have a projector and need a ceiling power location plus a concealed cable path to the rack.
  • Surround-sound speakers or a subwoofer need power and in-wall speaker wire run cleanly.
  • Your equipment rack or component shelf is a tangle of cords and power strips you want tidied and properly powered.
What we do

TV & home theater wiring options

01

Recessed TV outlet with concealed cables

We cut in a recessed box behind the screen that holds a flush power receptacle and a low-voltage opening for your HDMI and other cables. The plug sits inside the wall so the TV sits tight to the surface, and the cables drop down through the wall cavity to a second recessed plate at your gear. The result is a mounted TV with nothing showing.

02

TV power over a fireplace

Mounting over a fireplace means getting power and signal up a wall that often has stone, brick or a masonry chase in the way. We find a safe route, keep the receptacle off the heat, and bring the HDMI up inside the wall to the recessed box so the mantel stays clean. On a true masonry face we map the path first and tell you what is possible before any cutting.

03

Dedicated theater and AV circuits

A real theater stacks a receiver, amplifiers, a projector and a subwoofer that can trip a shared breaker or introduce noise. We run one or more dedicated circuits sized to the equipment so the system runs clean and quiet. That keeps the gear off the same breaker as lights and wall outlets in the room.

04

Projector and surround-sound power

We bring a power location to the projector mount, whether that is a ceiling drop in a media room or a shelf at the back of a theater, and conceal the run back toward the rack. For surround sound we add receptacles where powered speakers and subwoofers need them and route in-wall speaker cable along the way.

05

Clean rack and component power

Your equipment rack or AV closet is where the whole system plugs in, so it needs enough properly grounded receptacles in the right spot, not a daisy chain of power strips. We set up clean power at the rack and land the low-voltage runs on labeled plates so future service is simple.

How it works

Our process

  1. 01

Walk the room and map the routes

We look at where the TV, projector, speakers and rack will sit, check what is inside the walls, and plan cable paths that stay hidden. On masonry and fireplace walls we confirm what is physically possible before we commit.

  2. 02

Flat-rate price before we open a wall

You get a clear written price covering the recessed boxes, the in-wall cable, any dedicated circuits and the fish work, all approved before we start cutting.

  3. 03

    Rough-in and cable routing

We cut in the recessed boxes, fish the in-wall rated power and low-voltage cable through the cavity, and pull any new circuits back to the panel. We keep power and signal separated where it matters to avoid interference.

  4. 04

    Mount, connect and dress

We terminate the receptacles and low-voltage plates, make the connections at the TV and the rack, and dress the cabling so nothing hangs loose behind the gear.

  5. 05

    Test and verify

We confirm power at every outlet, check that the HDMI and other signals pass cleanly end to end, and make sure the picture and sound come up before we hand it back to you.

  6. 06

Patch and walk you through it

We close and patch any access holes we made, clean up, and show you where every circuit, outlet and cable lands so you know how the system is wired.

What you get

What is included

Every TV & home theater wiring job from Magnify Electric includes the same standards, start to finish.

  • A recessed outlet box behind the TV that hides both the plug and the low-voltage cables.
  • CL2 or CL3 in-wall rated cable, which is jacketed to run legally and safely inside a wall.
  • Low-voltage pass-through plates at the TV and at the equipment location for easy future changes.
  • Dedicated circuits for theater and AV gear when the load calls for it.
  • Labeled receptacles and clean power at the equipment rack or AV closet.
  • A complimentary 54-point safety inspection of the power and circuits serving your media wall.
  • Patching of access points and a walkthrough of how everything is wired.
What drives the price

Cost factors

We give you a flat-rate price after we see the job. These are the things that move that number up or down.

Wall type and cable path

A standard drywall interior wall is a quick fish. Stone, brick, a masonry fireplace chase or a two-story run take more time to route safely, which is the biggest driver of cost.

Dedicated circuits vs. existing power

Tapping a nearby circuit for a single TV is one job. Pulling new dedicated circuits back to the panel for a full theater is another, and we size them to the equipment.

Number of locations and cable runs

One mounted TV is simpler than a TV, a projector, a rack and a surround system that all need power and concealed low-voltage runs. We price by what the room actually needs.

Who we help

We wire media rooms and great rooms in custom Hill Country homes around Spicewood, Lakeway and Bee Cave, mount TVs over the stone fireplaces those builds are known for, and set up game rooms and theaters in lake houses on Lake Travis and the Highland Lakes. Newer builds in Leander and Liberty Hill often get the recessed outlet done right the first time, and older homes get a clean path found through walls that were never meant for it.

Chris and Caden did a great job of installing a dedicated circuit and outlet for us. They were very thorough in checking out the existing circuit outlets and also patient with explaining everything before starting. I appreciated especially the quality of their work, their professionalism, and their willingness to throw in extra work where they saw fit at no charge. In short, I couldn’t be happier about the job they did.

FAQ

TV & home theater wiring questions, answered

Can you hide the cords on my wall-mounted TV completely?

Yes. We install a recessed outlet box behind the screen that holds a flush power receptacle and a low-voltage opening, so the plug and the HDMI drop down inside the wall to a second plate at your gear. Nothing shows below the TV. This is the most common TV job we do in Austin homes.

Why do you need special in-wall cable? I already have an HDMI cord.

A standard HDMI cord is not jacketed or rated to run inside a wall, so running it in the cavity is both a code issue and a fire-safety issue. We use CL2 or CL3 in-wall rated cable, which carries a fire-resistant jacket made exactly for concealed runs. It keeps the install legal and safe and gives you a clean path if you upgrade gear later.

Can you put power and a TV over my stone fireplace?

Usually yes, but the wall decides the route. On a framed wall above the firebox we can bring power and signal up inside the wall to a recessed box. On a solid stone or brick face we map the path first and tell you what is possible before any cutting, and we always keep the receptacle and cable away from the heat.

Do I need a dedicated circuit for a home theater?

For a full theater, it is worth it. A receiver, amplifiers, a projector and a subwoofer can overload a shared breaker and introduce noise into the system. We run one or more dedicated circuits sized to the equipment so the gear runs clean and is not fighting the room's lights and outlets. A single mounted TV can often use nearby power instead.

How much does it cost to install a TV outlet or wire a theater?

It depends on the wall type, how far the cable has to travel, whether you need new dedicated circuits, and how many locations are involved. We give you a flat-rate price after we walk the room and map the routes, and you approve it before anything happens. We do not open a wall before you have approved the price.

Will you cut holes in my wall, and do you patch them?

We make the smallest access points needed to fish cable and set the recessed boxes, and we patch what we open before we leave. On tricky runs through two-story walls or around masonry we plan the route to keep access points to a minimum. We walk you through anything that needs a painter's touch afterward.

Can you power a projector and run the cable to my equipment rack?

Yes. We bring a power location to the projector mount, whether that is a ceiling drop or a back-shelf spot, and conceal the low-voltage run back toward the rack. At the rack we set up clean, properly grounded power so your components are not living on a chain of power strips.

Do you set up the smart controls and protect the equipment too?

Our scope here is the power and the in-wall cabling that make a clean install possible. Protecting the gear from Texas lightning and surges is its own job, and so is automation and control of the system. We will point you to whole-home surge protection and automated lighting for those, and we often do them on the same visit.
