Downtown Georgetown, Texas

Electrician in Georgetown, TX

The Victorian homes around the Georgetown square are beautiful, and many are still running on the wiring and panels they had decades ago. That mix of older electrical systems and steady new growth is exactly the kind of work our licensed, family-owned team drives out to handle from our Spicewood base.

Georgetown spans a lot of ground, from the historic downtown district with its older houses, to the large Sun City active-adult community that has grown since the 1990s, to the newer construction going up around the city. Each of those puts a different demand on your electrical system, and we treat them that way.

For a troubleshooting call we charge a diagnostic fee to find the real cause, then lay out your options in plain language with optional, flat-rate repair pricing so you can decide what to do.

Wiring built for Georgetown

Downtown Georgetown holds some of the oldest housing stock in Williamson County, and homes from that era often still carry two-wire circuits without a ground, undersized service, and panels that were never meant for today's loads. Updating them safely means a real load calculation and, in many cases, a service entrance and panel upgrade rather than a patch.

Sun City and the surrounding newer neighborhoods are a different story: most are modern builds where homeowners are adding surge protection, standby or portable generator hookups, extra lighting, and accessibility-friendly switches and outlets as they settle in. Electrical permits for work in the city run through the City of Georgetown, and we handle that coordination so the job is inspected and signed off.

One thing that sets Georgetown apart is its power provider. Much of the city is served by Georgetown Utility Systems, the city-owned municipal electric utility, which has drawn attention for sourcing its power from renewable energy. A municipal utility is different from a co-op or Oncor, so we coordinate meter and service work directly with them.

Why Georgetown calls us

Licensed, local and upfront

We know Georgetown's older homes

The Victorian-era houses near the square often need grounding, panel and service work, not a quick patch. We diagnose the whole system and explain what actually needs doing.

Comfortable work for Sun City

We do a lot of surge protection, generators, added lighting and accessibility switches for Sun City residents, and we keep the visit clean, clear and on schedule with text updates.

We coordinate with your municipal utility

Georgetown runs its own city-owned electric utility, so we handle meter and service coordination with Georgetown Utility Systems and pull City of Georgetown permits.

Diagnostic fee, then flat-rate options

A troubleshooting visit starts with a diagnostic fee to find the problem, then you choose from optional flat-rate repair pricing. Known-scope installs are quoted flat-rate up front, with no hourly meter.

Licensed and insured

TECL 29321 and TX Master License 269417, with every job done to the current National Electrical Code.

Family-owned since 2012

We are a licensed, family-owned contractor based in Spicewood, with a complimentary VIP membership that gives military, educators and first responders 15% off.

Worth a call

Signs it is time to call an electrician

Two-prong outlets and no ground

Older downtown homes often still have ungrounded two-wire circuits. That limits what you can safely plug in and is a sign the wiring and panel are due for an update.

Breakers trip or lights flicker

In an aging home this usually points to an overloaded circuit, a loose connection, or a tired panel. We trace it to the source instead of just resetting it.

Switches and outlets are hard to reach or use

If switches are low, stiff, or awkwardly placed, we can add or relocate accessibility-friendly switches and outlets to make daily life easier.

Chris and Caden did a great job of installing a dedicated circuit and outlet for us. They were very thorough in checking out the existing circuit outlets and also patient with explaining everything before starting. I appreciated especially the quality of their work, their professionalism, and their willingness to throw in extra work where they saw fit at no charge. In short, I couldn’t be happier about the job they did.

Felt lucky to have found Magnify Electric. Christian fixed the issue we were having with our hardwired smoke alarms, installed a whole-house surge protector, and fixed a longstanding light switch issue. He did everything with excellence and efficiency. He did a great job of communicating throughout the process. Thanks so much!

FAQ

Electrician in Georgetown: common questions

Do you work on the older homes around the Georgetown square?

Yes, this is some of our most common Georgetown work. Many downtown homes still have two-wire ungrounded circuits, undersized service and dated panels, and we handle grounding, rewiring and panel upgrades to bring them up to current code safely.

Who provides my electricity in Georgetown?

Much of Georgetown is served by Georgetown Utility Systems, the city-owned municipal electric utility, which is different from a co-op or Oncor. We coordinate any disconnect, reconnect or meter work with them as part of a service change.

Do I need a permit for electrical work in Georgetown?

For work inside the city, electrical permits and inspections run through the City of Georgetown. For jobs that require it, such as a panel or service change or new circuits, we pull the permit and handle the inspection so the work is properly closed out.

I live in Sun City. What do you do most for homeowners there?

A lot of surge protection, generator hookups, added and recessed lighting, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and accessibility-friendly switches and outlets. These are straightforward upgrades that make a newer home safer and easier to live in, and we keep the visit tidy and on schedule.

Should I replace the old panel in my downtown home?

Often, yes. Older panels can be undersized, corroded, or lack the capacity for modern loads, and some older brands are known to be unsafe. We run a load calculation, check the service entrance, and give you a flat-rate price so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

Can you set up a generator so an outage does not shut us down?

Yes. We install generator hookups with a proper interlock kit or transfer switch so your refrigerator, heat and any medical equipment keep running during an outage. Backfeeding through a dryer cord is dangerous and we will not do it.

I smell something burning at an outlet or the panel. What now?

Treat that as urgent. If it is safe to do so, shut off the breaker for that circuit or the main, keep everyone clear, and call us right away. If there is smoke or fire, call 911 first.

How does your pricing work?

When the cause is unknown, a troubleshooting fee covers diagnosing the whole system, then you get optional, flat-rate repair pricing to approve so you decide whether to proceed. A known-scope install is quoted flat-rate up front, and financing is available.
