A ground-fault circuit interrupter cuts power in a fraction of a second when current leaks to ground, which is exactly the hazard near water. We add GFCI protection to kitchens, bathrooms, garages, laundry areas, exterior and any outlet within reach of a sink, so a fault trips the outlet instead of reaching you.
AFCI protection for bedrooms and living spaces
An arc-fault circuit interrupter detects the small electrical arcs that a damaged cord, a nicked wire or a loose connection can start, which is a leading cause of electrical fires. We add AFCI protection for bedrooms, living rooms and other living spaces where code calls for it and where nuisance arcs tend to hide.
Replace worn, loose or backstabbed receptacles
Receptacles wear out, and the push-in back-stab connections many builders use loosen over time and run hot. We replace tired or loose outlets with properly terminated, spec-grade receptacles so plugs hold firmly and the connection stays cool.
Ground old two-prong outlets
Ungrounded two-prong outlets leave surge-sensitive electronics and anything with a three-prong plug unprotected. Where a ground path exists we convert them to grounded three-prong outlets, and where it does not we explain the code-compliant options so you are not relying on a cheater plug.
240V outlets for ranges, dryers and appliances
Electric ranges, dryers and some large appliances need a dedicated 240V circuit and the correct NEMA receptacle, not a shared or undersized one. We confirm the circuit and breaker can carry the load and install the right outlet for the appliance.

An outlet that feels warm, smells hot or shows scorch marks usually has a loose or arcing connection behind it. Left alone that heat can char the device and the wall box, so it is worth addressing before it spreads.
No GFCI near water is a shock risk
Older Hill Country homes often have no GFCI protection in kitchens and baths. Without it, a fault near a sink or a wet counter has no fast way to cut power, which is the situation GFCI protection was created to prevent.
Backstabbed outlets loosen over time
The push-in connections on builder-grade outlets can work loose and overheat years after installation. One failing outlet on a circuit can also drop power to everything downstream of it.

Replacement vs. a brand-new outlet
Swapping an existing receptacle is a quick job. Adding an outlet where none exists means running a new branch from a nearby box or the panel, which affects the price.
Type of protection and receptacle
A standard outlet, a GFCI, an AFCI, a USB receptacle and a 240V appliance outlet are different devices at different costs, and some require a dedicated circuit.
Grounding and wall access
Converting ungrounded two-prong outlets and fishing wire through finished walls takes more work than an open or easily reached box, and we spell that out before starting.

Why do my kitchen and bathroom outlets need GFCI protection?
GFCI outlets shut off power in a fraction of a second when current leaks to ground, which is the exact hazard anywhere near water. Code requires them in kitchens, baths, garages, laundry rooms and outdoors for that reason. Many older Hill Country homes were built before that rule, so adding GFCI protection is one of the most common and worthwhile upgrades we do.
What is the difference between GFCI and AFCI outlets?
A GFCI protects against shock by cutting power when current leaks to ground, and it belongs near water. An AFCI protects against fire by detecting the small arcs a damaged wire or loose connection can create, and it belongs in bedrooms and living spaces. They solve different problems, and we install whichever your home and the code call for.
Can you make my old two-prong outlets safe for three-prong plugs?
Yes, and the right way depends on what is in the wall. Where a ground path is available we convert the outlet to a grounded three-prong receptacle. Where there is no ground, code allows a GFCI-protected option instead of a cheater plug, and we will explain which path fits your home before we start.
One of my outlets is warm or has a slight burning smell. What should I do?
Stop using it and, if it is safe to do so, switch off that circuit at the breaker and keep the outlet clear. A warm or smelling outlet usually means a loose or arcing connection that can get worse. If you see flame or smoke, call 911 first, then call us at 512-731-0868 to find and fix the cause.
Can you add an outlet where there isn't one now?
Yes. We add outlets for kitchen islands, home offices, garages, patios and anywhere you are stretching an extension cord today. The cost depends on how far we run from the nearest circuit or the panel and how much wall access the route needs, and we give you a flat rate before we start.
Do you install 240V outlets for a range or dryer?
Yes. Electric ranges and dryers need a dedicated 240V circuit and the correct NEMA receptacle for the appliance. We confirm the breaker and wire can carry the load, then install the right outlet. If your panel is full or undersized for the new appliance, we will tell you, and that work lives on our panel page.
What does it cost to replace or add an outlet?

Can you install USB and tamper-resistant outlets?
